Negative effects of landscaping (landscape management) is the study of the environmental impacts of landscape management practices (i.e., land development, construction of buildings, roads and other infrastructure) used by societies. Negative effects of landscaping encompasses the effects of landscape architectural and urban planning and construction, and include global and local effects.

Types of landscape

Landscape elements (trees, ponds, lakes, etc.) are typically defined as a collection of objects or activities whose placement, construction, design, maintenance, or operation have the potential to have an impact on the environment. Landscape planning refers to the decision-making process of defining and organizing the various elements of a landscape into a specific setting.

Many landscapes incorporate more than one element, which could be a mixture of natural, manmade, or an "artificial" landscape. Landscapes are further classified as either natural, artificial, or a combination of the two. Natural landscapes include natural plants, animal life, landforms, and/or water bodies. Artificial landscapes include man-made features such as buildings, roads, paths, landscaping, and recreational facilities. Combination landscapes include the combination of natural and artificial features.
